IGI Grid Infrastructure

IGI is the Italina NGI (National Grid Initiative) and is part of the European Grid Infrastructure (EGI). Certified production sites are those Grid resource centers which provide production-quality services (compute, storage and core services) meeting high-availability standards and users requirements. Several production sites are also part of the IGI training infrastructure and provide resources to be used during schools and training sessions.

Grid resources are made available by individual resource provides, and regional/institutional Grids. Various Italian regional Grids operated and provided in the framework of various PON projects (at the time of writing, IGI is still in the process of integrating resources from various partners). The following list provides a view of regional/institutional Grids and Grid projects in general, operating under the umbrella of IGI.

  • CRESCO (Centro computazionale di RicErca sui Sistemi COmplessi)
    • The CRESCO project will aim to develop a High Performance Computing infrastructure which will be mainly devoted to the study of Complex Systems. These arise in different contexts, from Life Sciences to sociology and embrace most of technological systems which have a relevant impact on society (Critical Infrastructures).

  • CYBERSAR

    • The Cybersar project aim to develop a High Performance Computing cyberinfrastructure in Sardinia, that will be devoted to fundamental and applied research in the context of Life Sciences, Engineering and Informatics.

  • INFN Grid

    • The INFN Grid project is the general container used by INFN (Italy's National Institute for Nuclear Physics) to develop and deploy the Grid middleware services which allow its various user communities, while taking part in worldwide experiments and projects, to transparently and securely share the computing and storage resources together with the applications and technical facilities, available in the different administrative domains of the various Institutions and geographical sites.

  • LIBI (International Laboratory of Bioinformatics)

    • A Virtual Laboratory for composing and executing complex experiments in Bioinformatics.

  • PI2S2 (Progetto per l'Imprementazione e lo Sviluppo di una e-Infrastruttura in Sicilia basata sul paradigma della GRID)

    • The PI2S2 project aims to develop an e-Infrastruttura based on Grid in Sicily.

  • SCoPE (Sistema Cooperativo distribuito ad alte Prestazioni per Elaborazioni Scientifiche Multidisciplinari)
